I see no ships

The Daily Telegraph has reported that almost half of the Royal Navy's fleet of 44 warships is to be mothballed as part of a Ministry of Defence cost-cutting measure, according to reports. The Government has admitted that 13 unnamed warships are in a state of reduced readiness, putting them around 18 months away from active service.

It said a further six destroyers and frigates were being proposed for cuts. They were the Type 22 frigates Cumberland, Chatham, Cornwall and Campbeltown and two Type 42 destroyers Southampton and Exeter.A need to cut the defence budget by £250million this year to meet spending requirements had forced ministers to look at drastic measures, the newspaper reported.

A senior officer, currently serving with the Fleet in Portsmouth, said: "What this means is that we are now no better than a coastal defence force or a fleet of dug-out canoes. The Dutch now have a better navy than us."

It was on board HMS Elephant, during the Battle of Copenhagen, that Nelson famously put his telescope up to his blind eye and maintained he could not read the signal.

Can anyone else see the elephant in the room?

FRES is the United Kingdom support for the European Union Defence Agency (EDA) in its work to ascertain the potential for co-operation/collaboration in the future procurement of Armoured Fighting Vehicles with an expected UK procurement cost of around £14Bn.

Meanwhile on Wednesday the 3rd of January Merco Press reported that Argentina has reaffirmed sovereignty rights over Falklands

The official announcement through an Argentine Foreign Affairs Ministry release was done in the framework of the “174th anniversary of the illegitimate occupation of the Islands by British forces”.

The release makes the “imprescriptible sovereignty rights” extensive to the Sandwich and South Georgia islands and surrounding maritime spaces.

Update:
Advice note to the Argentinean government, if you are planning on retaking the islands, I would wait until next month as Rear Admiral HER Royal Highness, The Princess Royal will be in the Falklands next week, accompanied by her husband, Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence.

They see no ships either
