Surveillance State

The Independent on Sunday has discovered that several offices within the Commons and Portcullis House belonging to senior Conservative Party MPs and officials are checked regularly by security experts for listening devices and other surveillance equipment.

Last night, a Conservative MP wrote to Gordon Brown demanding an urgent review of the Wilson doctrine, the convention that protects MPs from phonetapping but does not cover other surveillance techniques.

No Caption No Competition

An Opposition MP is arrested without warning on trumped-up conspiracy charges and thrown into jail. His home, constituency and parliamentary offices are simultaneously raided by 20 anti-terrorist officers.

It sounds like East Germany before the Wall came down. But this happened in Britain, in the past 48 hours - the most terrifying manifestation to date of Labour's Stasi State.

Interviewed by Adam Boulton on Sky News yesterday, the Gordon Brown gave not the slightest inclination that he was in any way troubled by this outrageous arrest of a fellow Honourable Member or the invasion of Parliament by the heavy mob.

He merely denied any 'prior' knowledge and said that this was solely a matter for the police.

This is Brown's Britain, Vote Labour.

Be afraid

It is being reported that the Conservative shadow minister Damian Green has been arrested by the State Police after obtaining leaked Whitehall documents.

David Cameron, the Conservative leader, is said to be "extremely angry" about the arrest and has privately accused the Government of "Stalinesque" behaviour.

I am "extremely angry" too, the conservative party is still a member of the EPP.

TAX con

Wholesale prices for energy have taken a tumble recently and with the UK economy in full retreat, expectations for price cuts on gas and electricity have risen. After all, suppliers have pushed through 40% increases in 2008 by blaming sky-high oil prices - so now that the price of oil has halved, the price you pay for your gas and electricity should follow, right?

Wrong

Edw. II 1322 Revocatio Novarum Ordinationum

"Ordinances or provisions concerning the King and the realm made by subjects shall be void and none such shall be made except by the King, Lords and Commons in Parliament".

It seems that Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown are in deep do do, concerning the levying Taxes, which was announced in the Pre-Budget Report yesterday.

Read more at Iain Dale

Bowles v. Bank of England, [1913] 1 Ch. 57, 84-85

By the statute 1 W. & M., usually known as the Bill of Rights, it was finally settled that there could be no taxation in this country except under authority of an Act of Parliament. The Bill of Rights still remains unrepealed, and no practice or custom, however prolonged, or however acquiesced in on the part of the subject, can be relied on by the Crown as justifying any infringement of its provisions. It follows that, with regard to the powers of the Crown to levy taxation, no resolution, either of the Committee for Ways and Means or of the House itself, has any legal effect whatever. Such resolutions are necessitated by a parliamentary procedure adopted with a view to the protection of the subject against the hasty imposition of taxes, and it would be strange to find them relied on as justifying the Crown in levying a tax before such tax is actually imposed by Act of Parliament.

TAX Trap

Following the Bank of England’s gloomy forecast earlier this month, Alistair Darling is set to say today that the economy will shrink by more than 1% next year. But he will say growth will return relatively quickly, partly on the back of his fisting stimulus

Warning....... every family will pay heavily in the long term for today's pre-Christmas borrowing and spending binge. I have just done a quick back of a fag packet calculation and based on what we already know, I have estimated that every family will end up paying nearly £10,000 for the Chancellor's £16billion "fisting stimulus".

"Some of the jam we thought was for tomorrow, we've already eaten."

The Chancellor is preparing to use his annual Pre-Budget Report (PBR) tomorrow to cut the European Union Tax (VAT) from 17.5p to 15p,

But this will mean higher taxes in the longer term to pay for it.

Alistair through the looking Glass

'I'm sure I'll take you with pleasure!' Alistair said. 'Twopence a week, and TAX every other day.'
WE couldn't help laughing, as we said, 'I don't want you to hire ME - and I don't care for TAX.'
'It's very good TAX,' said Alistair.
'Well, I don't want any TO-DAY, at any rate.'
'You couldn't have it if you DID want it,' Alistair said. 'The rule is, TAX to-morrow and TAX yesterday - but never TAX to-day.'
'It MUST come sometimes to "TAX to-day,"' WE objected.
'No, it can't,' said Alistair. 'It's TAX every OTHER day: to-day isn't any OTHER day, you know.'
'WE don't understand you,' WE said. 'It's dreadfully confusing!'

Our Tax System Explained:

Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100. If they paid their bill the way we currently pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay £1.
The sixth would pay £3.
The seventh would pay £7.
The eighth would pay £12.
The ninth would pay £18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay £59.
So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by £20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just £80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the £20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'?

They realised that £20 divided by six is £3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving).

The sixth now paid £2 instead of £3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay £5 instead of £7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid £9 instead of £12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid £14 instead of £18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid £49 instead of £59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the Pub, the men began to compare their savings. 'I only got a pound out of the £20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got £10!' 'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a pound, too.? It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' 'That's true!! 'shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get £10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!' 'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

So the nine men surrounded the tenth - and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks (what a surprise) so the nine sat down and had beers without him.

But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important.

They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and university professors, is how our tax system works.

The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.

Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

Mind The Gap

The government argues that its net debt position is strong, with a net debt to annual GDP ratio at 42.9 percent. That statistic is a prime example of lies, damned lies and government statistics.

The 42.9 percent excludes the debt incurred through the PFI (private finance initiatives). This will be brought into the total soon. It also does not yet include the net debt of Northern Rock and Bradford and Bingley. It also excludes the debt of RBS, where the government owns a majority stake and the debt of Lloyds-TSB and HBOS, where the government has a controlling minority stake. Under normal accounting practices, the debt of all three banks will have to be counted as public debt in the future.

However, the Banking Times are reporting that the British Bankers’ Association (BBA) have said that banks have not yet received their injection of cash.

So, in the meantime, thats all right then!

European Union space policy

The Transnational Institute, a Dutch think-tank, said: "EU-financed communication and spy satellites are slowly becoming reality and in the long term the inclusion of space-based missile defence and other more offensive uses of space are real options for an increasingly ambitious EU military space policy." Telegraph

Question
Could the research and technological developments contained in Article 179 of the Lisbon Treaty include the military use of space, and could the joint undertakings contained in Article 187 of the Lisbon Treaty be undertaken in the area of military use of space?

Answer
The question posed does not fall within the competence of the European Union since the Lisbon Treaty is not yet in force.

We are all victims of crime

As Britain enters what could be the most serious economic crisis since 1929 it is worth looking at how much membership of the European Union costs Britain

By 2008 Britain will have made total contributions to the European Community (EC) Budget of £230.4 billion gross or almost £68.2 billion net.

• By the end of the current EC budget period Britain will have made estimated total contributions to the EC Budget of £315.4 billion gross and £101.4 billion net.

• By 2007 Britain had an accumulated trade deficit with the other EU member states of £383.7 billion.

• The Common Agricultural Policy costs Britain at least £16.8 billion per annum.

• The Common Fisheries Policy costs Britain at least £3.275 billion per annum.

• Over-regulation on business costs Britain at least £28 billion per annum.

That is the equivalent for every man, woman and child in Britain of £1,077 per annum gross or £915 per annum net.

Or the equivalent for every tax-paper in Britain of £2,119 per annum gross or £1,799 per annum net

Regional Select Committees (for England)

Yesterday the House of Commons backed government plans to set up new select committees for English regions. The Government won the vote by only 34 votes (254 votes to 220)

Now please take note, these are English Regions.

The Government only got this through with the support of 69 MP's who do not represent English constituents

What do English Regions have to do with Labour's 29 Welsh MP's and 38 Scottish MP's?

It is a disgrace .

The only effect one Independent State can have upon another Independent State is through the obligation and terms of a bi-lateral Treaty. This principle is embodied in Article 27 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, that states a "...party may not invoke the provisions of its internal law as justification for its failure to perform a treaty."

The constituent parts of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (so called since 1927) are (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland have all been regarded for centuries as nations, and are still correctly referred to as such. This has nothing to do with legal status. England, Scotland and Ireland all were once Kingdoms, but no longer are (since 1707 in the case of England and Scotland, 1800 in the case of Ireland). Wales was not a Kingdom but a Principality, and is sometimes still referred to as such.

The UK Government draws up on its LEGAL BASIS from the Act of the Union.

Article 4 of the Act of Union states That all the subjects of the United Kingdom of Great Britain shall from and after the Union.........have the same Rights Privileges and Advantages

The people of Scotland and Wales, since devolution, have had different rights, privileges and advantages over those of the people of England. The treaty of union is therefore null and void and England can withdraw using the provision of Article 61 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties.

Article 61 Supervening impossibility of performance

A party may invoke the impossibility of performing a treaty as a ground for terminating or withdrawing from it if the impossibility results from the permanent disappearance or destruction of an object indispensable for the execution of the treaty. If the impossibility is temporary, it may be invoked only as a ground for suspending the operation of the treaty.

Happy Groundhog Day

Here we go again. Today, for the 14th year in a row, the European Union Court of Auditors will unveil their report, telling us that they refuse to clear the EU accounts. Times

It doesn't mater how fast you chase the European Union Commission, you never catch up with the money.

This can only be expressed as EU = mc14.

Where EU is the immovable object, mc = mass corruption and 14 is the number of years that the auditors have been unable to sign off the European Union accounts.

The Fraud Act 2006 introduces several general offences of fraud which may be committed by a person or persons who:

makes a false representation
fails to disclose information when he is under a legal duty to do so;
abuses a position of trust

The European Union and the EU Commission draws upon its LEGAL BASIS on budgetary maters from Article 268 to 280 of the EC Treaty. As the European Union has not performed or been in legal compliance for 14 years we should now withdraw from the European Union using the provision of Article 61 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties

What Lindsay Roy can do for Glenrothes

Hat tip Waking Hereward

Lindsay Roy is under the impression that he can actually do something for the people who he hopes will elect him to a nice comfy leather seat at Westminster...

This taken from the Scottish Labour web site...

Lindsay Roy says:
“My Action Plan for Fife will help people here with their own lives".

A summary of Lindsay’s Action Plan for Fife

Crack down on anti-social behaviour
Visible policing, zero tolerance to drugs, action on underage drinking.
REALITY: Devolved issues – irrelevant to a Westminster MP.

A citizens’ panel to decide where new CCTV should go.
REALITY: Devolved issue – irrelevant to a Westminster MP.

Fight for more opportunities for young people
More sports and recreation facilities for Fife , including public consultation with young people to decide where new pitches should go.
REALITY: Devolved issue – irrelevant to a Westminster MP.

Campaign against Fife Council privatising golf courses and convene an urgent meeting with top cinema chiefs to start bringing a new cinema to central Fife.
REALITY: FORE!! Really, really irrelevant to a Westminster MP.

Sort out the roads and buses
Support dualling and upgrading the A92.
REALITY: Yawn – guess what? Devolved issue – irrelevant to a Westminster MP.
(However, if you wanna mess with an English A road, then fill your boots!)

Demand a clear timetable and funding plan for the Forth Road Bridge that the SNP have delayed.
REALITY: Don’t bother mate, they won’t take any notice of you as this is a devolved issue and therefore has bugger all to do with the likes of you!
(Mind you, English road tolls have bugger all to do with as well - but it won't stop you voting on them at Westminster, will it?)

Give powers back to Fifers so local people can make decisions about their buses.
REALITY: Sorry, yet again you no can do – bus stuff is a devolved issue).
(How about giving power to Englishers?)

Help Fife families through tough times
Benefit “check-ups” to ensure pensioners get the benefits they deserve – including the new, free insulation.
REALITY: Oy, nosey! You can’t do anything about this - again! Nowt to do with you old Son as it is a de-bleeding-volved bleeding-issue, geddit?
(But what about English pensioners, Lindsay? They don't get any of those nice, juicy benefits, including free insulation, do they).

Outlaw overcharging people on pre-pay meters and fight the SNP local income tax.
REALITY: Lindsay, mate - fighting the SNP over their local income tax can only be done in the place where they are producing the legislation. And that ain’t in Westminster!(HA ha.... You should see what we are charged down here Lindsay!)

Oppose greedy oil bosses who keep petrol costs high.
REALITY: Hal-ay-bleeding-leuauh!!! Who’d have thought it! Finally, finally on Lindsey’s action plan, SOMETHING that actually concerns him!...... But as oil prices are set at an international price, and as HM government takes over 70% in tax from the selling price, and as both Brown and Darling have said they cannot touch the oil companies, I don’t think there is much chance of anyone taking any notice of Lindsay... Will they?

Our tip: Lindsay baby, if you want to actually do something, actually try to effect any of those items on your ‘action plan’, we reckon you should try and get elected to the Scottish Parliament..... but who knows, maybe you’d rather be content with doing bugger all at Westminster?
